I am engaged in teaching and research at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Dept. of Zoology, University of Chittagong since 1980, as Lecturer (1980-‘84), Assistant Professor (1984-1992), Associate Professor (1992-1997)and Professor (1997-till now). Since 1980 I have supervised 73 M.S. (Thesis) students, seven M.Phil. , three Ph.D. students, and presently supervising three Ph.D. and two M.Phil. and one M.S. students for their thesis. Attended and presented research papers in more than 80 national and international (USA, China, UK, Canada, India, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand) seminars, symposiums and workshops. Received six research and one teaching grants/awards from Bangladesh University Grants Commission; FAO/UNDP; Government of Bangladesh, SUFER Project DFID (Department for International Development) UK and Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Bangladesh; BSFF, WorldFish Centre; and Ministry of Education, Bangladesh. Conducted the research projects as Chief Investigator / Consultant. Received “Best Scientist”-Award from BAAS (Bangladesh Association for the advancement of Science) in 1989; Received ‘FZSB” (Fellow Zoological Society of Bangladesh)from the Zoological Society of Bangladesh in 1998, Received “Best research presenter award” in 2006 [from BFRF (Bangladesh Fisheries Research Forum), and received 2 times Best research presenter awards from BCEMRG-CU, Faculty of Biological Sciences, Chittagong University during 2008 and 2012 on the occasion of Observation of International day for Biological Diversity. Published 78 research papers in different national and international journals, published Scientific proceedings and abstracts 53, popular scientific c articles 18. Post graduate training received from the Windermere Laboratory, The River Laboratory, and The Eastern Rivers Group of Freshwater Biological Association UK in 1989 and 1990 ; from in the Pacific Biological Station, Nanaimo, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 2000 and from AIT (Asian Institute of Technology), Thailand in 2002.
